Jennifer Richards, Principal of Safety Matters Jennifer has worked in the construction industry since 1987. She began her career as a carpenter’s apprentice and achieved journeyman status in 1991. After working in the field for ten years, Jennifer transitioned into a career in safety. Her passion and commitment to workplace safety comes from real life experiences. Jennifer’s certifications include: - OSHA 500 Outreach Trainer,
- Medic First Aid CPR/First Aid/
- AED instructor,
- Certified forklift instructor,
- Certified flagger instructor
- Certified occupational hearing conservationist.
She has been a guest speaker at the Governor’s Safety and Health Conference, worked with high schools to promote apprenticeship programs and assisted dozens of companies to develop and implement safety and health programs. Pat Achurra Pat Achurra began his construction career working as a mason in 1981 which is where his passion and commitment to safety began. He worked as a mason for 19 years and spent 13 of those years with Lund Masonry in Seattle, WA. After an industrial accident in 2000 he became the Safety Director for Lund Masonry. Pat held that position until September 2002. In 2003 Pat became a Safety and Health Compliance Officer for the Department of Labor & Industries. He spent the next three years investigating accidents and fatalities as well as compliance inspections and complaints. Pat left the Department of Labor & Industries in 2007 for a position at Approach Management Services (AMS), a Risk Management firm, specializing in Retro Management. He and Jennifer Richards worked together at AMS until they ventured out on their own to begin Safety Matters, LLC. |
